Patna: Buoyed by the landmark victory in Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP has now set its eyes on Bihar which will go to polls later this year in October and November. Though the opposition I.N.D.I.A. is yet to set its house in order, the BJP is leaving nothing to chance.

It is against this backdrop that Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is also BJP’s chief poll strategist, reached Bihar on Saturday evening.

Getting down to business, he straight away drove down to the BJP headquarters where he held parleys with the BJP MPs, MLAs, MLCs, other party functionaries and stressed upon the need to show exemplary unity with all the NDA allies and ensure the I.N.D.I.A. bloc is decimated in the Assembly polls.

This winning mantra by Shah is significant in two senses. First, Bihar is the only state in the Hindi heartland where the BJP has failed to have its chief minister since Independence.
.Bihar turned 'doobta' under Lalu Prasad's rule, says Nadda.
Secondly, during the 2020 Bihar Assembly polls, the BJP narrowly missed the bus as its tally was just one short of RJD from becoming the single largest party, a feat which, otherwise, would have helped the saffron camp lay its claim on CM’s chair.
.
During the fiercely fought polls in November 2020, the RJD became the single largest party with 75 seats, while the BJP secured 74 seats. Nitish was relegated to a poor third with a mere 43 seats in the 243-member House. In a compromise formula, Nitish became CM with two Deputy CMs from the BJP.

Against this background, Amit Shah, who has so far refrained from naming Nitish Kumar as the next Chief Ministerial candidate, is scheduled to sound poll bugle from Lalu’s home turf Gopalganj on Sunday.

“Amit Shah ji will first address a meeting of the Cooperative Ministry at Bapu Sabhagar in Patna on Sunday. Thereafter, he will launch a poll campaign for Bihar polls by addressing a BJP rally in Gopalganj,” said Bihar BJP chief Dilip Jaiswal. Incidentally, Gopalganj is the home district of RJD chief Lalu Prasad.

“After addressing the rally at Gopalganj, Shah is slated to meet JD (U) chief and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar at the latter’s residence on Sunday where talks related to seat sharing and coordination among the NDA allies may take place. LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan and HAM president Jitan Ram Manjhi, both Union Ministers, may also attend the meet,” said senior BJP leader and Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary.
