Delhi Jal Board vice chairman Saurabh Bhardwaj on Monday asked officials to file police complaints against water meter readers and private companies indulging in corrupt practices, according to a statement.

During a meeting with officials, Bhardwaj also directed them to resolve issues related to water meter readings and "erroneous" water bills in a time-bound manner, the DJB statement said. (PTI)

Muggy weather in Delhi as temperatures remain above average

Muggy weather conditions prevailed in Delhi on Monday with the maximum temperature settling at 36.1 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 27.6 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday told a group of civil society representatives at the Constitution Club in New Delhi thatthe party's upcoming 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' is like a "tapasya" for him and that he is ready for the "long battle" to unite the country.

The Congress had announced last week it will launch on September 7 the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra' -- being billed by the party as the longest yatra mounted in this country over the last century.

MSP committee forms four sub-groups to discuss key issues as farmers protest

The committee on Minimum Support Price (MSP) formed four sub-groups on mandated topics, including making "MSP more effective and transparent" in its first meeting on Monday but Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) remained absent.

The committee, headed by former agriculture secretary Sanjay Agrawal, discussed ways to "promote zero budget based farming", to "change" crop patterns keeping in mind the changing needs of the country, and to make MSP more "effective and transparent".

The panel has 26 members including the chairman, while three membership slots are kept aside for representatives of SKM. (PTI)

AAP govt refutes to Delhi Chief Secretary's excise policy report

AAP government sources on Monday issued a point-by-point rebuttal to the Delhi chief secretary's report flagging "violation of rules and procedural lapses" in the implementation of the Excise Policy 2021-22, amid a CBI probe into the matter.

The CBI probe was recommended by Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena last month based on the Delhi chief secretary's report that had listed various instances of "violations of rules and procedural lapses" and "undue favour" to licensees in the implementation of the policy from November 2021.

The CBI has filed an FIR against 13 persons and two companies, including Deputy Chief Minister and Excise Minister Manish Sisodia, in the matter. The policy was withdrawn by the government after Saxena recommended a CBI probe into it. (PTI)

ABVP claims JNU guards assaulted them during protest

Over a dozen students were injured on Monday allegedly after security guards at JNU roughed them up for protesting on campus, ABVP claimed.

The students were staging a protest on the campus alleging that they have not received their fellowship in over a year, a member from the RSS-backed student group said.

"Over a dozen suffered injuries after Cyclops attacked them on the order of administration," ABVP activist Ambuj said.

Cyclops is the firm tasked with managing security on the Jawaharlal Nehru University campus.

A Delhi Police constable and security guard at a Delhi government-run hospital here were allegedly assaulted by two men in an inebriated state, officials said on Monday.

The incident took place at the Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital in Kalyanpuri on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday, they said, adding hospital property was also damaged by the miscreants.

Delhi BJP holds protest outside Kejriwal's residence: Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said Kejriwal should expel Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia from his Cabinet as he is "accused number one" in the case registered by the CBI.

"Kejriwal is the kingpin of the whole scam in which liquor mafia was allowed to loot at the expense of state exchequer," he alleged.

In a tweet, the police asked motorists to avoid Tolstoy Marg, Sansad Marg, Janpath Road, Ashoka Road, Outer Circle Connaught Place, Baba Kharak Singh Marg and Pandit Pant Marg due to farmers' mahapanchayat.

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha and other farmers' groups are organising the congregation and they will pass through outer district, which includes Ghazipur border in Ghaziabad, officials said.

"In this connection, adequate deployment of local police and outside force has been made in outer district at Tikri border, major intersections, along railway tracks and metro stations to avoid any untoward incident," a police official said.
