DGCA sends show cause notice to Air India for exceeding stipulated flight time limit

The civil aviation watchdog has also asked the airline to remove 3 officials from all roles related to crew rostering.

Troubles continue to haunt Air India as now civil aviation watchdog DGCA has sent a show cause notice to the airline for exceeding the flight time limit of 10 hours for two flights from Bengaluru to London.

These violations were found during the spot checks of the airline's Bengaluru-London flights of May 16 and 17, where in the FDTL had exceeded 10-hour limit, as per the notice.

The airline has been given seven days to reply to the show cause notice.

"...during a spot check, it has been observed that the Accountable Manager of Air India operated two flights from Bangalore to London (Al133) on 16 May 2025 and 17 May 2025, both of which exceeded the stipulated flight time limit of 10 hours," the DGCA said in the notice, citing violation of Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR Section 7, Series J Part III).

In a separate notice, DGCA has also ordered Air India to remove its three officials, including a divisional vice president, from all roles and responsibilities related to crew scheduling and rostering.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), in its order on June 20, also asked the Tata Group-owned airline to initiate internal disciplinary proceedings against these officials without delay.

The three officials include a divisional vice president of the airline, as per the DGCA order.
