Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Thursday met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and discussed developments in Tamil Nadu, but said it was "too early" to talk about alliances for the Lok Sabha elections next year.

"It is too early to decide," Haasan, president of the newly launched political outfit Makkal Needhi Maiam, told reporters when asked whether he had any discussion on an alliance with the Congress in Tamil Nadu.

Haasan said his discussion with Sonia was restricted to the political situation in Tamil Nadu.

"It was a general talk," he said insisting that the meeting was only a courtesy call.

Haasan had met Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday.

He had met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on the sidelines of the swearing-in ceremony of Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy on May 23.

Since his entry into politics, Haasan has been vocal on issues concerning Tamil Nadu such as the Cauvery issue and the recent controversy over Sterlite copper smelter in Toothikudi.

Haasan and superstar Rajnikanth are testing political waters in Tamil Nadu in an attempt to occupy the political space left vacant after the death of AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa.
