Govt holds consultation meeting with film industry on proposed amendments to Cinematograph Act

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry of India held a consultation meeting with the Film industry on proposed amendments to Cinematograph Act on March 04. “This meeting was needed to form a bridge between government and industry. Policymaking and policy executors have to strike the right balance. Filmmaking to be promoted as NFDC did. CBFC certification, film archive, piracy to improve. The meeting was successful,” said Central Board of Film Certification Chairman Prasoon Joshi. Notably, the new draft proposes to amend the Cinematograph Act of 1952 with provisions that will give the Centre revisionary powers and enable it to re-examine films already cleared by the CBFC. Several people including ones from the industry have been against the amendment as they believe that it does nothing except take away the autonomous power of the CDFC.
