<p>Ahmedabad: The special operation group (SOG) of Ahmedabad police on Thursday busted a racket printing fake Australian dollars and arrested four persons including an Indian origin Australian citizen.</p><p>The suspects have been identified as Ronak Chetanbhai Rathod, Khush Ashokbhai Patel, Maulik Shankarbhai Patel and Dhruv Himanshu Desai. The police have recovered a total of 151 fake Australian currency in the denomination of 50 dollars and 18 sheets of counterfeit currency.</p><p>According to FIR, one Rakesh Vaghela informed the police stating that his friend Rakesh Parmar, who runs a saloon in Vejalpur locality, was contacted by a customer identified as Ronak Rathod saying that he had a lot of Australian dollars and wanted to sell them at Rs40 per dollar against its market price of Rs 55. </p>.Rs 6,000 crore Ponzi scam busted in Gujarat, mastermind underground.<p>FIR states that the saloon owner reportedly sensed that "Rathod was acting like a fraud," which led him to contact his friend Vaghela who in turn contacted SOG. FIR stated that Rathod went to get the money while an SOG official along with an informer reached the saloon and kept a watch. </p><p>Rathod came to the saloon when he was apprehended by the SOG team and allegedly recovered 119 fake Australian currencies in the denomination of 50 dollars each from his possession. </p><p>Following information, a team of SOG raided Platinum Estate in Vatva where the fake currencies were being printed in a shade. They seized among other paraphernalia a high end printing machine worth Rs9 lakh, computers, laptop, raw materials among others. </p><p>Investigation revealed that Ronak Patel had received the fake currency from Maulik Patel who allegedly masterminded the crime. Maulik, 36, is a resident of Pramukh Bungalow, Gandhinagar and has a transport business. He told police that he is an Australian citizen and wanted to make quick money following huge losses in business.</p><p>He came to Gujarat in October and conspired to print fake currencies. He along with co-accused bought a high end printer from Gandhinagar Expo and decided to print from the shade in Vatva which is owned by co-accused Dhruv Desai, 20, a resident of Ghodasar in Ahmedabad.</p><p>Police said that the accused downloaded the picture of currency notes from Google. They have been booked for attempting to commit crime, counterfeiting currencies, possession of forged or counterfeit currencies with intent to use them as genuine, among other charges. </p>
