The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has patented a new trade logo to be used by allopathic doctors across the country.

The idea behind the new logo is to distinguish doctors of modern medicine from others, including those practising Ayurveda and homoeopathy, said Chandigarh IMA president Dr Ramneek Singh Bedi.

He said the logo has the word ‘Dr’ written in the Copper font in the middle of a red plus sign. Patients would be benefited by the move as it would help them identify a qualified allopathic doctor on the basis of an official insignia, Bedi said.

The Union government’s trade mark registry had registered the logo as an intellectual property of the central division of the IMA, he said.

“The new logo patented under Rule 24 (3) of the Trade Marks Rules, 2012 will be for use under section 45 (1) of the Copyright Act, 1957,” he said.
