 Pakistan and India should sit down at the table like peaceful neighbours and settle their outstanding issues, including Kashmir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Friday night, as the country observed 'Youm-e-Tashakur' (Day of Thanks) to pay homage to the military.

Addressing a special 'Youm-e-Tashakur' event at the Pakistan Monument here, Shehbaz said that India and Pakistan fought three wars and got nothing.

"The lesson is to sit down as peaceful neighbours and settle all outstanding issues, including Jammu and Kashmir. Without resolution of our issues, we cannot have peace in this part of the world,” Shehbaz said.

Prahlada Ramarao, former DRDO scientist behind AKASH missile system, says "Everything was a challenge. We were all very young, most of us were under 30.

The Air Force and Army had specified that the missile should be a multi-target handling surface-to-air missile system.

If the enemy sent 6-8 aircraft, the missile had to destroy all of them at once. The radar had to be customised for beam agility, so the missile wouldn't miss a target. The enemy aircraft had to be matched with us, as in, which missiles would go to which aircraft.

"That could have also been done because of the intelligence we have built into the radar and the command-control system inside the missile. This would ensure that it would match different targets, missiles simultaneously, accurately, and reliably."

India-Pak Tensions LIVE | One more held for 'supporting Pakistan' in Assam

One more person has been apprehended in Assam for "supporting Pakistan", taking the number of such arrests in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack to 65 in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Saturday.

He said the latest arrest has been made in Kokrajhar district.

Sharing the update on "crackdown against anti-national elements", Sarma posted on X, “@KokrajharPolice arrested Joynal Abedin from Gossaigaon for supporting Pakistan on social media.”

He added, “65 anti-nationals arrested till now."

The state police have been taking action against people for ‘anti-India’ and ‘pro-Pakistan’ activities, including posts on social media, since the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22, in which 26 people were killed.

Among those arrested was opposition AIUDF MLA Aminul Islam. (PTI)

India-Pak Tensions LIVE | Army reaches out to Poonch residents hit by Pak shelling

The Army on Saturday reached out to the residents of several forward villages along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch that were hit by Pakistan shelling in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, a defence spokesperson said.

The troops visited affected families in Khari Karmara, Jhallas and adjoining villages, and expressed solidarity and support to the people whose houses and livelihoods were impacted, he said.

They interacted with the local residents to understand their immediate concerns and reassured them of continued assistance. Essential ration packets were distributed among the affected households, the spokesperson said.

The Army reaffirmed its commitment to stand by the local population during challenging times and work towards restoring normalcy in the region, he said.

He said the locals expressed gratitude for the Army’s timely support, and the interaction strengthened the bond of trust and cooperation between the security forces and the people. (PTI)

This was the first time since independence that Indian armed forces struck 100 km inside Pakistan, delivering a befitting response to terrorists, said Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday, as he praised ‘Operation Sindoor’.

Addressing a gathering in Kolavada village in Gandhinagar district, Shah said the entire world is praising the capability of the Indian Army and the firm resolve of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said Indian armed forces eliminated nearly 100 terrorists, devastated the headquarters of terror outfits, and also destroyed 15 military installations, which eventually reduced the ability of Pakistan’s air force to hit back.

Shah, who is on a two-day Gujarat visit from Saturday, said PM Modi coined the term ‘Operation Sindoor’ in honour of the country's women. (PTI)
