Industrialist takes chopper ride between Mumbai and Pune to avoid massive traffic jam on Expressway

Mumbai: Amid the traffic jam on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, a businessman took a chopper ride between the two cities on Wednesday and posted images of what is being described as the mother of all jams.

Industrialist Dr Sudhir Mehta, the Chairman of Pinnacle Industries Ltd, integrated commercial vehicle seating and interiors company and EKA, a subsidiary of the automotive & technology company, posted the photos on X.

“Lakhs of people have been stuck on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway for the last 18 hours for “one gas tanker’,” he said.

"For such emergencies we need to plan exits at different points on the Expressway which can be opened to allow vehicles to return. Helipads cost less than Rs 10 lakhs to make and require less than one acre of open area. These need to be mandatory at various points near the expressway for emergency evacuation,” he said.

Dr Mehta also tagged Nitin Welde, a consultant for helicopters in civil aviation.

Because of the jam, Dr Mehta has taken a chopper from the Juhu aerodrome to Pune.
