Amit Shah calls for the complete eradication of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir

The Union Home Minister also called for full coordination among security agencies to prevent infiltration across the International Border. Shah also reviewed security preparedness for the upcoming summer months, especially in light of the Amarnath Yatra and the peak tourist season in Kashmir.

Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday called for the complete eradication of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and stressed the importance of preventing any infiltration across the border.

His comments were made during a high-level meeting of the Unified Headquarters (UHQ) at Raj Bhawan, the highest security grid in the Union Territory. The UHQ, which includes representatives from the army, paramilitary forces, police, and intelligence agencies, serves as the key decision-making body on security matters in the UT.

Sources revealed that the meeting focused on the current security situation, law and order, and other related concerns. “The Home Minister instructed the UHQ to work in full coordination to ensure zero infiltration and maintain a zero-tolerance stance towards terrorism in the UT,” they said.

Shah also reviewed security preparedness for the upcoming summer months, especially in light of the Amarnath Yatra and the peak tourist season in Kashmir. Throughout his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, the Home Minister not only examined security matters but also assessed ongoing developmental initiatives in the UT.

Earlier, Shah held a high-level meeting to review the progress of various developmental projects, with the participation of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Chief Secretary Atul Dulloo, and other senior officials. Before the UHQ meeting, Shah also had a one-on-one session with the Chief Minister, as confirmed by officials. He met several delegations before departing for New Delhi later in the evening.

Shah, who arrived in Srinagar on Monday evening, paid a visit to the family of Deputy Superintendent of Police Humayun Muzammil Bhat, who was killed in a gunfight with terrorists in September 2023. Bhat, who was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, had been among four security personnel who died in the dense forests of Gadool village in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The Home Minister also visited Jammu on Sunday evening, where he chaired a crucial meeting with party leaders at the BJP headquarters. Additionally, he held a closed-door session with BJP and RSS members at the Jammu residence of Sunil Sharma, the Leader of Opposition in the J&K Assembly.

During his visit to the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district along the International Border, Shah addressed Border Security Force (BSF) personnel, commending the force as an elite border protection unit.
