CISF personnel guarding Parliament undergo elite commando training in Kashmir

Srinagar: To bolster the security of one of India’s most sensitive institutions, select personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) deployed for the protection of Parliament are undergoing specialised commando training in the Kashmir Valley, sources said.

The high-intensity training programme, reportedly conducted at undisclosed Army training facilities in Kashmir, is aimed at equipping CISF personnel with advanced combat capabilities to counter evolving threats to national institutions. The training is being led by seasoned Army instructors drawn from elite units with operational experience in conflict zones.

“This marks a significant upgrade in the operational preparedness of the Parliament security wing of the CISF,” a senior security official said. “Given the complex and multi-dimensional nature of threats today—from lone-wolf attackers to coordinated terrorist strikes—the need for advanced skills in urban warfare and counter-terrorism has become essential.”

The training, sources said, covers a wide range of combat techniques, including urban warfare scenarios, room intervention tactics, anti-sabotage operations, and high-risk extraction drills. The curriculum is reportedly tailored to meet the specific challenges associated with securing a high-value target like the Parliament complex.

The decision to conduct the training in Kashmir was deliberate, considering the region’s challenging terrain and active counter-insurgency environment, which offers real-time exposure and simulation of hostile scenarios, they said. The trained personnel will form the core of a rapid response unit within the CISF Parliament security apparatus, ready to act instantly in case of any high-threat situation.

The CISF, a central armed police force under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is primarily responsible for guarding critical infrastructure across the country, including airports and government buildings. With this move, the CISF appears poised to evolve into a more agile and combat-ready force to meet the demands of contemporary security threats.
