Making the announcement on his 77th birthday, Kalyan, who was flanked by hundreds of his supporters and son Rajveer Singh, said that the name of the new party would be “Jan Kranti Party” (JKP). Singh will be the patron of the JKP. The party will be headed by his son Rajveer.

Speaking to reporters, Singh said his supporters asked him to form a new party instead of joining some other outfit. “Now, there should not be any speculation about the possibility of joining another party,” he said. The new party will pursue a policy of “aggressive Hindutva and nationalism,” he said. It will also focus on “villages, poor people and women.”

The former UP chief minister, who quit the BJP twice and had also sided with Samajwadi Party, will visit Ayodhya on Wednesday with his son Rajveer to have “darshan” at the makeshift temple.

JKP leaders said Kalyan would be looking to create space for his new outfit by harping on aggressive Hindutva and nationalism. “The BJP has abandoned this policy,” the leaders said.

He also clarified that the JKP would contest the next assembly elections on its own but would welcome like-minded leaders like Jan Shakti leader Uma Bharti for an alliance.
