18th Asian Art Binale Award for artist Kandan

Artist Kandan G has been presented with the 18th Asian Art Binale Award.

N S Pattar, artist and lecturer at the Mahalasa School of Fine Arts, who addressed reporters in the city on Tuesday, said that the award is conferred by the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. “Kandan was awarded for ‘Samakalina Samaja,’ a 98” (48”x60”) work, which depicts the domination of the capitalist world,” he said.

Pattar added that this was the first time in the 37-year history of Art Binale that an Indian artist has been awarded.

“A total of 483 artworks by 465 artists from across the world took part in the competition. Kandan has won of the three grand awards,” said Pattar.

Artist G Kandan, corporator Dayanand Shetty, Ninasam artiste Gurumurthy and civil contractor Mustaf were present at the press meet.
