<p>Following directions from the Centre and the State government, officials of the Food and Civil Supplies department conducted raids on several shops at the APMC yard here on Monday. They seized pulses and oil seeds worth Rs eight crore.<br /><br /></p>.<p>Based on complaints that the traders had illegally procured large quantity of pulses including tur dal, green gram, mung dal, black gram, bengal gram and also edible oil seeds, the team of officials led by department deputy director Sadashiv Mirji conducted raids on more than 40 shops and Food Corporation of India godowns.<br /><br />According to officials, they seized more than 677 metric tonnes of pulses and 574 metric tonnes of edible oil seeds.<br /><br />During the raid, it came to light that a few traders had produced fake bills in the names of farmers and stocked the items. Stringent action would be taken against traders who violate orders by procuring more than the required quantity of pulses and edible oil seeds, Mirji warned.<br /><br />The district administration had raided 25 wholesale shops in Hubballi and Dharwad two days ago and had seized pulses and oil seeds worth Rs 8.75 crore. <br /><br />In Bidar<br />In Bidar, a team of officials from the district administration conducted raids at various places to check illegal hoarding of tur dal (red gram) and seized 2,213 quintals of red gram.<br /><br />According to a press release, teams of officials led by the assistant commissioner of Bidar conducted surprise checks in the last few days. They raided Shiva Grain Merchants at Gandhi Gunj area of APMC yard and seized 650 quintals.<br /><br />Officials also seized 1,200 quintals of red gram at Manish Dal Mill. A total of 158 quintals of red gram stored at the central warehouse by Mahadeva Siddalingappa of Koudgaon village was seized by the officials. Also, 205 quintals of red gram belonging to V K Dhanur stored at the warehouse were also seized by the officials.<br /></p>
