<p>Raichur: The indefinite sit-in protest by the Raichur AIIMS Horata Samiti entered its 1,000th day on Wednesday. Various organisations led by the protest committee staged a massive protest in the City, condemning the central government’s failure to announce AIIMS for Raichur in the budget.</p><p>Members of Pro-Kannada organisations, Dalit organisations and student organisations participated in the protest march taken out from Karnataka Sangha to the Mahatma Gandhi statue in the City. They also raised slogans demanding AIIMS.</p><p>While some people, including women, performed ‘urulu seva’ near Dr Ambedkar Circle, some youths protested half-naked by writing on their bodies demanding that their demand be fulfilled. </p><p>Hundreds of students and activists of organisations participated in the march holding flags. </p><p><strong>‘Centre neglecting Raichur district’</strong></p><p>Horata Samiti general convener Basavaraj Kalasa said, “The central government is neglecting Raichur district. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has written to the central government five times, but it has failed to respond. </p><p>“The MPs representing the state at the centre, central ministers and BJP leaders have not exerted pressure on the centre on behalf of the district. The AIIMS approval is being delayed due to the conspiracy of BJP leaders”, he expressed ire.</p><p>“Central ministers Nirmala Sitaraman, Pralhad Joshi, Somanna and Shobha Karandlaje are adopting deceptive tactics. The central government can no longer deceive the people of Kalyana Karnataka. Our struggle will continue until our demand is met. Protests will also be held at the taluk level,” he added.</p><p>Activist Lakshman Dasti said, “It is impossible for Raichur to get AIIMS as long as Pralhad Joshi is a minister at the centre. </p><p>“Though he is a Union minister, he is working only for Dharwad district. We cannot expect progress in Raichur and Karnataka from such people,” he expressed ire.</p><p>“North Karnataka does not mean only Hubballi-Dharwad, and Kalyan Karnataka means not just Kalaburagi. Emphasis should be laid to develop other districts of Kalyan Karnataka too,” he demanded.</p><p>MP G Kumar Naik, Deputy Mayor Sajid Sameer, Secretary of Sharanabasappa Appa Education Society’s Basavaraj, activist R K Hudagi, Bidar’s Team Yuva convener Vinay Malage, Karanja Mulagade Santrastara Samiti’s Chandrashekar Patil, Raitha Sangha leader Chamaras Malipatil, Hyderabad Karnataka Horata Samiti State vice-president Razak Ustad, Ravi Bosaraju, AIIMS Horata Samiti co-convenor Ashok Kumar Jain and others participated in the protest.</p>
