<p>Shivamogga: Members of BJP Mahila Morcha staged a protest on the taluk office premises in Bhadravathi on Tuesday demanding the arrest of MLA B K Sangamesh’s son B S Basavesh for his alleged abusive remarks against female geology officers over the phone when they tried to stop illegal sand mining on the banks of Bhadra river.</p><p>They held a banner with the photo of B S Basavesh and raised slogans against him.</p><p>They stated that the MLA’s son abused the female officers over the phone and gave death threats to them while they were on duty. A video of the incident has gone viral on social media and police should not have waited and should have taken up the case suo motu.</p><p>They also demanded that MLA B K Sangamesh should resign from his post immediately.</p><p>Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka State Women’s Commission former chief C Manjula said illegal activities in Bhadravathi constituency are on the rise. The atrocities committed by the MLA, his sons and their families have increased and soon, the people of the constituency will teach them a lesson. The chief minister, deputy chief minister and home minister of the state should wake up immediately and ensure the culprit is brought to books.</p><p>Local BJP leader G Dharmaprasad said it is true that Basavesh abused the female officers. Most people in the constituency know about Basavesh, his behaviour and his voice. However, to divert attention and prove he is not involved in the case, false information is being spread on social media.</p><p>They demanded that Basavesh’s voice be sent to Forensic Science Laboratory to find the truth.</p><p>Mangote Rudresh, who had unsuccessfully faced the assembly polls as BJP nominee, local leaders M Manjunath, Sulochana, G Anandkumar, Channesh, Annappa, Satish, MS Sureshappa, Rajasekhar Uppara, Annapurna, Subramani, Manjula, presidents, office bearers, leaders and took part in the protest.</p><p><strong>Complaint filed</strong></p><p>Meanwhile, geologist Jyothi submitted a complaint to SP G K Mithun Kumar seeking action against those who disrupted them from discharging their duties.</p><p>Speaking to media persons later, she said, she was threatened by some people on February 9th night. They have arrested Ravi of Mavinakatte in Channagiri taluk, Varun of Hassan district and Surendra Gowda of Bhadravathi taluk.</p><p><strong>Video shows officers being abused</strong></p><p>A video of a man claiming to be the son of the sitting MLA verbally abusing and threatening female officers of the Mines and Geology Department, who tried to stop illegal sand mining in the Bhadra river near Seegebagi-Baballi in Bhadravati taluk on Sunday night began doing rounds on social media triggering controversy.</p><p>As per sources, following information about illegal sand mining and transportation in the Bhadra river, geologists Jyoti and Priya Gowdar went to the spot with three staff members at night.</p><p>The video shows a man engaged in illegal sand lifting at the spot handing a mobile phone to the officer and asking her to speak to the ‘brother’. The officer who refuses to accept the phone asks him to tell his ‘brother’ to call her on her phone. The man on the other side agrees but asks the officer to put her phone on loudspeaker mode. He then hurls verbal abuses at the officers and continues it even after the officer warns him to speak decently keeping in mind that he was speaking to an officer on duty.</p><p>The man cuts the call, saying, “The DySP will come to the spot in five minutes.”</p><p><strong>No rescue</strong></p><p>Though the female officers contacted the rescue team during the incident, the local police had switched off the phone. Even though they called 112, it could not be reached. It has been alleged that senior officials of the Mines and Geology Department had also switched off the phone.</p><p>Basavesh, however, refuted the allegations and said he had nothing to do with the video.</p>
