A day after Congress MLA Anand Singh was allegedly assaulted by Kampli MLA J N Ganesh at Eagleton resort, the Ramanagara police on Monday registered a case of attempt to murder against the latter.
Ganesh has been booked under IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder) 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation).
Bidadi police sub-inspector Harish obtained statement from Singh at the Apollo Hospitals.
“We had finished our dinner at the resort on Saturday night along with other MLA friends. When heading to our rooms to retire for the night, MLA Ganesh told me that I had not helped him financially for the election, and that my sister’s son Sandeep had threatened him (Ganesh) to bump him off,” Singh said in his statement.
Ganesh then started abusing Singh in filthy language and assaulted him with a wooden log and a few pots. “He hit me on my head and face and smashed my head to a wall yelling give me a pistol, I will finish him off here,” Singh said in the statement. By this time, he had fell down and Ganesh kicked him on his stomach and face repeatedly. “He also punched on my chest with his fists,” Singh’s statement said.
By that time, minister Tukaram, MLA Raghumurthy, Ramappa, and Tanvir Sait intervened and separated Ganesh from Singh. “If they (other ministers and MLAs) would not have come to my help, Ganesh would have killed me,” Singh said in his statement. He then became semi-conscious and regained his consciousness at the Apollo Hospitals.
“Our men are conducting spot inspection of the resort now and we have to obtain statement from the accused as well. It’s a prerogative of the investigating officer to arrest the accused or not,” said B Ramesh, Superintendent of Police, Ramanagara.
