The state government on Thursday set a one-month deadline for all departments to fill up backlog posts for SC/ST in civil services, failing which officials concerned would face action that could include imprisonment.

In a circular, the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has pointed out that stringent action is provided for against violation of rules under the Karnataka Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other Backward Classes (Reservation of Appointment etc) Act, 1990.

A Cabinet sub-committee headed by Social Welfare Minister Priyank Kharge constituted to oversee the process of filling up backlog posts has found that several departments to be negligent on this front.
