<p>Bengaluru: The 110 villages, added to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) limits in 2008, are finally expected to get underground drainage connections by the year end.</p>.<p>After nearly 15 years under the BBMP jurisdiction, these villages received Cauvery water connections in October 2024 and have since been awaiting sewage connections.</p>.<p>Senior BWSSB officials said delays in constructing new sewage treatment plants (STPs) left the villages without sewage lines. "We assessed the infrastructure requirements, but a later study showed the need for additional STPs were causing delays," a senior official said.</p>.<p>The BWSSB is now building 14 new STPs with a combined capacity of 124 MLD in these areas. "Pipelines have been laid and we are awaiting the STPs' completion, expected by December. Once ready, sewage connections will be operational," said Ramprasat Manohar V, Chairman, BWSSB.</p>.BBMP orders BWSSB to fast-track drainage project in HAL 2nd Stage.<p>Several residents had paid for the connections as early as 2019 and have urged the board to expedite the work.</p>.<p>Lake volunteers have also raised concerns about sewage polluting waterbodies in the area. Officials said the new STPs would help prevent this.</p>.<p>BWSSB’s sewage treatment capacity to rise 35% by December</p>.<p>Apart from the 14 STPs in the 110 villages, the city is set to get 12 other new plants. Together, the 26 STPs will add a capacity of 470 MLD.</p>.<p>At present, the BWSSB can treat 1,348.5 MLD of sewage through 34 plants.
