"We are living in this area for the past nine years and have been witnessing floods during rains due to badly aligned stormwater drains. Due to a gradient problem here, water cannot easily enter Nagavara and Hebbal Lakes and during heavy flow, the flowback causes floods in the area," said Kiran Kumar, a resident of AMCO Layout.

"Even the park located inside the Hebbal Lake is not maintained well. Ever since the private entity (EIH Hotels) took the lease for maintaining the lake, things have gone from bad to worse," he added.

Residents of Vidyaranyapura, Thindlu and Kodigehalli are also facing problems due to the improper construction of storm water drain.

Kodigehalli corporator Ashwath Narayan Gowda says that the problem with the storm water drain exists ever since the National Highway was constructed here.

"I have been getting the storm water drain desilted for the past four days, removing nearly
900 loads. There have been encroachments along the stretch of the drain which partially passes through the Defence and Forest land. We need at least three acres of military land to make a proper stormwater drain and a letter has already been written to the Central government. Only if the Defence Ministry parts with a share of its land can this perennial problem be solved," he said.
