'Bacteria caused death of animals'

Briefing reporters here on Wednesday, he said many animals have been living beyond their biological ages and the ones which died, succumbed due to age related problems. “Divya, the four-year-old tigress died due to infection caused by the bacteria. Food and water has been changed for animals since the incident occurred,” he said.

This is in line with the initial reports that had indicated that the animals succumbed due to infections caused by bacteria. Some circles in the City had also raised concerns over the unfriendly conditions in the Park.

Besides these animals, there were eight others which were not keeping well and have been at the rehabilitation centre. There are 13 lions and one tiger which are more than 14 years of age. At the Rehabilitation centre, there are two tigers and 61 lions.
