RGUHS declares 7,548 candidates eligible for postgraduate medical courses

A day after the Comed-K PGET results, candidates got the results of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Post Graduation Entrance Test (PGET) on Tuesday.

This year, the university has declared 7,548 applicants (out of 8,719) in medical and 1,081 (out of 1,835) in dental eligible for various courses in post graduation.

A few students who figured among the top 10 of Comed-K PGET bagged honours in this entrance test too.

Many felt that the Supreme Court’s decision to allow declaration of results of all the tests conducted this year has given them a better shot to admissions for post-graduation courses.

‘Excelling, a habit’

For the family of Arti Goel, who has secured the first rank in the dental stream, excelling in the field of medicine has become a habit. The student also secured fourth rank in the Comed-K PGET. Her family members said she was the fifty-fourth doctor in her family and the only dentist.

Goel said her grandfather, the oldest doctor in the family, was instrumental in her success.

“My preparation was consistent. I believed in taking sufficient breaks in between. I plan to pursue Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics.”  In spite of certain advantages that the multiple entrance tests have to offer, Goel felt that a single national level entrance test would increase the opportunities of getting a post graduation seat.

Her grandfather, Kuldeep Kumar, a former director of health services in Haryana, said everyone in his family loved medicine and he expected many more doctors among them.
Mudita Verma, daughter of a government school teacher, Rashmi Verma and ENT
specialist and president of the ENT Association of Haryana Dr. NPS Verma has secured the second rank in the Dental stream. “I knew she will be at the top” said Rashmi. Mudita too expected that she would be in the top 10. She wants to specialise in Orthodontics or Endodontics. She got the 10th rank in the Manipal University entrance exam and was ranked 400 in NEET.

City students fare well

Harish C, from the City, has secured second rank in the medical stream. Harish got the third rank in Comed-K entrance test. He said he prepared continuously all through his MBBS course.

He is aiming a career in Orthopedics. Harish felt that post graduation is essential for a career in medicine these days as patients are more confident when they approach experts in the field.

Pratima Krishnamurthy, yet another topper from Bangalore, has secured the ninth rank. She is a gold medallist in her BDS and was awarded the best outgoing student at Government Dental College here.

Pratima owed her success to her family and her professor Dr Raison Thomas. For her, preparing for the entrances was no less than a penance.

“I was completely dedicated. I put in 10 hours a day. Giving that much of concentration was not easy, but I eventually learnt to manage it.”

Fresh out of the BDS course, she cleared the PG entrance at one shot. She plans to pursue Orthodontics.
