BBMP unveils Rs 19,930 cr Budget; fifth without an elected body

Bengaluru: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) presented its annual budget on Saturday, with a total outlay of Rs 19,930 crore for 2025-26 —marking a 50 per cent increase from the previous fiscal year. A significant portion of the revenue is sourced from state government grants.

Dr Harish Kumar K, Special Commissioner (Finance), presented the budget at Town Hall in the presence of BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Girinath and Administrator S R Umashankar. This is the fifth consecutive budget being presented without an elected body.

BBMP expects to generate Rs 5,716 crore from property tax, Rs 7,000 crore from state government grants, Rs 500 crore from the World Bank, and Rs 238 crore from the National Disaster Mitigation Fund, among other sources.

Approximately 65 per cent of the budget will be allocated for development projects, Dr. Harish Kumar stated in his budget speech. Additionally, Rs 1,751 crore has been earmarked for administrative expenses, Rs 1,968 crore for project maintenance, and Rs 1,400 crore for solid waste management

While property tax rates remain unchanged, BBMP has announced plans to levy a user fee for solid waste management services—an additional cost that may impact Bengaluru residents.
