<p>Bengaluru: The 16th <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/bengaluru-international-film-festival">Bengaluru International Film Festival</a> will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah along with Deputy CM D K Shivakumar at the Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru on March 1.</p><p>Five books about cinema published by the Karnataka Film Academy will be released by Kannada actor Shivarajkumar at the opening ceremony. Festival ambassador Kishore Kumar G, Polish Institute Director Malgorzta Wejsis Golebiak, actor Priyanka Mohan and Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce president M Narasimhalu will be the other guests. </p><p>The inaugural function will be followed by the screening of the festival's opening film, <em>Pyre</em> directed by Vinod Kapri. The 111-minute Hindi film follows the life of an elderly couple in a remote village in the Himalayas. The film won an audience award at the Tallinn Black Nights International FF. </p><p>Film screenings will begin from Sunday at PVR Cinemas Orion Mall, Rajajinagar, Dr Rajkumar Bhavan, Chamrajpet and Suchitra Film Society, Banashankari. </p><p>World Kannada Cinema Day will be celebrated on March 3 to commemorate the release of the first Kannada talkie film <em>Sati Sulochana</em>, BB Cauvery, Secretary to Dept of Information and Public Relations announced at a press conference on Friday. Well known stage singer Lakshmana Das will sing songs from the film. Grand children of director Y V Rao and the writer Bellave Narahari Shastri will attend the event. </p><p>Artistic director Vidyashankar said that they will hold an interactive session with Kishore, who is also the festival's ambassador. </p><p>Multiple master classes and workshops will be conducted through the course of the festival, including a cinematography masterclass by S Ravi Varman, a music lecture by Devi Sri Prasad, a panel on women in cinema by actors Ramya (Divya Spandana) and Nandini Reddy. There will also be a seminar by FIPRESCI Critics' Group and the films of veteran filmmakers Guru Dutt, Shyam Benegal, Ritwik Ghatak and Kumar Shahani will be held. </p><p>The eight-day festival will conclude on March 8. The winners of the Asian, Indian and Kannada competition sections will be announced at the closing ceremony. </p>
