Chinnaswamy stampede: 2 more FIRs against RCB, KSCA; complaint lodged against star batter Virat Kohli

Bengaluru: Two more First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered by the Cubbon Park police against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in connection with the stampede at the M Chinnaswamy stadium on Wednesday that killed 11.

Separately, a complaint was filed on Friday by the Naija Horatagarara Vedike, holding star batter Virat Kohli responsible for the stampede. The Cubbon Park police told the complainant that since an FIR was already registered, they would examine his complaint.

Two FIRs were registered separately on Thursday based on complaints by Rolan Gomes and C Venu, both of whom were injured in the stampede. The FIRs is also named DNA Entertainment Private Limited, the event management company. The first FIR, which also named the three named in the subsequent cases, was based on a complaint from the local police authority — the Cubbon Park police inspector, Girish A K.

Gomes, 25, a designer, and C Venu, 21, a student, both alleged that RCB, DNA and KSCA were responsible for the stampede due to their miscommunication regarding the passes and poor arrangements.

Gomes, who was with his friends Rithik and Aniruddh, and Venu, who was with his friends Vasanth and Pawan, alleged that their being at the spot was a result of the RCB announcing on social media on Wednesday morning that an open bus victory parade would be held at 3 pm where the players would be taken to the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

As per the FIR, Gomes and his friends were at Gate 17 of the stadium, where they observed several people being crushed in the stampede at 3.10 pm when the gate was opened. Gomes said that he suffered an injury to his right arm.

Venu and his friends were at Gate 6. Venu alleged that at 4.20 pm, the gate was opened, prompting people to enter and leading to a stampede. Venu said he saw people being crushed, and one person climbed on the barricade, which fell on Venu’s leg and injured him. Both were taken to the hospital, where they were treated for their injuries, the FIRs noted.
