<p>Bengaluru: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Friday launched the second edition of 'Hackathon', a 24-hour-long initiative aimed at advancing research in cybercrime investigations. </p>.<p>About 50 teams consisting of 175 students participated in the competition. The participants were shortlisted out of 850 registrations. The topics were Deepfake detection, blockchain-based digital evidence chain of custody, and Internet of Things (IoT) device evidence extractor. </p>.<p>For Deepfake detection, participants had been expected to create tools to identify and combat manipulated media content. For the blockchain challenge, the students had to develop means to ensure tamper-proof documentation and preservation of digital evidence. Designing methods to retrieve forensic evidence from Internet of Things (IoT) devices was expected from the participant choosing the IoT theme. </p>.Private bank employee dies by suicide during video call with wife in Bengaluru .<p>The winners will be recognised during the annual cybercrime summit, scheduled for March 15. Considering the quality of innovations by the students, they may also be provided opportunities to work with the Cybercrime Investigation Training and Research (CCITR) in the CID. </p>.<p>MA Saleem, Director General of Police (DGP), CID, said: "CCITR is committed to fostering innovation in cybersecurity and bridging the gap between academia and real-world challenges.” </p>.<p>The hackathon provides a platform for students to demonstrate their technical prowess and aligns with CCITR’s mission to advance research and training in cybercrime investigation, a note from the CID said.</p>.<p>The event was organised in collaboration with PES University. </p>
