<p>A 21-year-old BCom student was killed and her friend injured when a speeding private bus knocked their scooter down on West of Chord Road on Tuesday night.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The deceased, Chaitra, was a resident of Vidyaranyapura and a final year student in a private college in Sahakara Nagar. She was riding pillion with her friend, Sanjay, who escaped with minor injuries.</p>.<p class="bodytext">A police official said that Sanjay and Chaitra were heading towards Rajajinagar to attend a friend's wedding and, around 8.15 pm, a speeding private bus hit their scooter from the rear.</p>.<p class="bodytext">They were thrown off the vehicle on impact and Chaitra died on the spot due to severe head injuries. The driver of the bus sped away.</p>.<p class="bodytext">The Malleswaram traffic police had registered a case and are looking for the driver. They also collected CCTV camera footage from the area. Chaitra's body has been sent for postmortem.</p>
