Different flavours at fair

It was the perfect way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon as ‘Sunday Soul Sante’, a day-long carnival was held at the Palace Grounds last Sunday.

The fun-filled atmosphere at the carnival was reminiscent of Goa with many shoppers dressed in casual holiday wear, strolling around and taking a look at the stalls.

Over 130 stalls were put up and there was no end to the array of items that these had to offer — clothes, bags, earrings, paintings, articraft, chocolates, magnets, chappals to name a few.

The narrow-laned mud paths were filled with stalls on both the sides as shoppers thronged the place with excitement.

Most of the stall owners were from Bangalore, and were immensely happy with the response.

Said Priya Ramaswamy, who had put up a stall to sell candles, terracotta items, crafts and murals, “I take classes for kids in Indiranagar. It’s been a great experience putting up a stall here.” She had a unique snack called ‘Popcorn Candy’, which was like a cross between popcorn and cotton candy.

“It’s made of popcorn, caramel and gelatin and is available in different flavours like orange and blueberry.” She had also created a candle shaped like a mug of beer, which could easily be passed as real beer!

Another unique stall was the one selling stained glass work.

Sonali, an architecture student from Mysore, was heading this stall along with her friend Sabreesh, a DJ.

“It’s been a good experience here. Bangalore needs something like this,” said Sonali. From glass pendants to glass paintings, all sorts of glass items were available here.
Selling kurtas and dress materials were Deepti and Vishal, owners of a store called ‘Pooja Collections’ on Dispensary Road.

The two were quite happy with the response at the market. “We got to know about this through one of Vishal’s friends,” said Pooja. For the food-lovers, there was a food court where many restaurants of the City had put up stalls.

Said Harish Rao, one of the organisers, “We had organised a smaller carnival like this in Whitefield sometime ago.” Sadly, the ‘sante’ this time was held only for one day. But Harish assured that it would be back soon. He added, “We hope to bring it back by the end of October.”
