A 30-year-old habitual offender was hacked to death by his friends over a love affair near Ramchandrapura bus station at Gangamma Gudi on Thursday night.

The deceased, David D, was a rowdy-sheeter and a resident of Dodda Bommasandra near Vidyaranyapura.

The assailants had severed his head and thrown it on the premises of a private school.

The police have formed two special teams to nab the assailants and arrested one suspect Prasad in the case, said DCP (North) Chethan Singh Rathor.

A senior police officer said David was involved in rowdy elements from 2006 and there were burglary and robbery cases against him. For the past nine months, he was working as an ambulance driver in HMT hospital.

One of the assailants was in love with a girl in Ramachandrapura. David also fell for the same girl and 20 days ago, both had quarrelled over the issue and friends had to intervene to solve their fight, the officer said.

“The assailant thought that David may ruin his love life and so decided to kill him for which he sought the help of Prasad and others,” the officer added.

The assailants came near the bus station in two auto-rickshaws with machetes and other lethal weapons. Prasad had invited David for a party and all consumed alcohol in the rickshaws till 10.30 pm. David was fully drunk and when he wanted to leave, the gang attacked him, the officer said.

They severed his head and threw it on the private school premises, 100 metres away from the crime spot, and fled.

After being informed by the locals, the police rushed to the spot. Initially, they could not identify the body as the head was missing. After an hour of search, they found it and identified the victim.’
