“We cannot afford to violate any law as we have social responsibility and our clientele, comprising some of the biggest names in the world, are completely committed to compliance with laws and do not tolerate anything else,” company Vice-President Sharath Bhagawat said.

Stating that any agency can, “at any time of any day,” inspect the company, he said the firm sought a clarification from the labour department and the commissioner told that its stand was right. “It is now a matter of time before we get that in writing as the procedure is on.”

He stressed that the company has throughout its operations adhered to the existing laws.
The Garment and Textile Workers’ Union, however, disagreed with the company’s version and said it will take up the matter up legally.
