According to sources, Sugunamma (51), a home-maker, committed suicide, allegedly due to torture inflicted by the Viveknagar police on her sons.

The police took her 21-year-old twin sons Jagannath and Jagadish into custody in connection with theft of laptops and cellphones. They were allegedly using a stolen SIM card.

The police reportedly demanded Rs 50,000 bribe from Sugunamma to release her sons, causing her to end her life, sources added.

However, the Viveknagar police denied torture or demand for bribes. They said no case of unnatural death was reported in Ejipura, which comes in their jurisdiction.

When asked about the interrogation of Jagannath and Jagadish, the police refused to say anything.
