The Indian Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) here celebrated its Founder's Day by training the volunteers of a not-for-profit organisation in screen and stencil printing and making wall hangings.

As many as 70 volunteers of Sparsha Trust, Hesaraghatta, took part in the event to learn the skills of printing and involve students in social service activities.

Children learnt the technique of making environment-friendly art and craft.

"The workshop's primary aim was to satiate children's curiosity. Those interested in the subject can take up a course after completing SSLC or PUC. These skills enable one to be self-employed," Srilakshmi, an assistant professor at the IIFT, said.

Printing and drawing embroidery on curtains, screens, table tops and sofa covers were also demonstrated during the workshop.

Events for social cause

The IIFT was founded in 2001 by the late B Vedhagiri with the aim of integrating social objectives in its growth and development. Since then, the institute has worked and conducted many events for various social causes.
