Bengaluru man slits throat of 14-yr-old nephew addicted to 'Free Fire' game

Bengaluru: A 50-year-old man in northwestern Bengaluru was so upset over his nephew's addiction to the mobile game 'Free Fire' and repeated demands for money that he killed him by slitting his throat, the police said. 

The incident occurred on August 4 in Vinayak Nagar, Pipeline Road, Kumbarahalli. 

The suspect, GR Nagaprasad, a security guard, decided to kill his younger sister's 14-year-old son, Amogh Keerthi, after a quarrel over money the previous night, the police added. 

The police said Amogh, whom Nagaprasad described as headstrong, had demanded money to spend on the game. When Nagaprasad refused, the boy argued, created a scene and eventually went to sleep. 

Around 5.50 am on August 4, when the boy was asleep, Nagaprasad allegedly gagged him, tied his hands and feet, and slit his throat with a kitchen knife. The boy struggled and eventually succumbed to his injuries. 

Nagaprasad then washed the knife, packed a bag and planned to kill himself by jumping into a lake. However, he abandoned the idea and travelled to Majestic to leave the state. But with no money, he wandered for three days before surrendering at the Soladevanahalli police station on August 7. 

A court has remanded him in judicial custody, a police officer said. 

According to police, the boy had been living with Nagaprasad for the past 11 months. His mother — Nagaprasad's younger sister Shilpa — had separated from her husband, Prashanth, and stays with their parents. 

She had sent Amogh to her brother’s home hoping he would mend his ways.
