Man suffers burns in suicide attempt

A 38-year-old labourer sustained severe burn injuries while threatening to immolate himself after quarrelling with his wife at his house in Rajgopalnagar on Wednesday.

Nagaraju, with severe burns, was rushed to Victoria Hospital where he is being treated with third degree burns, the police said.

According to the police, Nagaraj and his wife Lalitha separated a year ago.

She was a garment factory worker and lived with her son while Nagaraj lived alone at a rented house in Sanjeevani Nagar, the police said.

However, Lalitha would come to Nagaraj’s house and pick fights with him.

On Wednesday, after an argument with Lalitha, Nagaraj, in a fit of rage, doused himself with kerosne and threatened to immolate himself, the police added.

However, the match stick accidentally fell on him and he was soon engulfed in fire.Neighbours rushed to his help and put out the fire before he was shifted to Victoria Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

Rajgopalnagar police have taken up a case and are investigating.

In another incident, depressed over his deteriorating health, a 22-year old man hanged himself at his house near Netaji Nagar in Mathikere on Wednesday evening.

The deceased, Androse, was mentally challenged and physically unwell. He was depressed for a long time, due to which he may have taken the extreme step, the police suspect.

His parents who are daily wage labourers, have lodged a complaint, based on which a case of unnatural death was registered with the Yeshwantpur police.

No suicide note was found, the police added.

In a separate incident, a 55-year daily-wage labourer committed suicide by consuming poison in Bagaluru, North Bengaluru on Wednesday night.

The deceased, Munegowda, worked at a stone-crushing unit near Bagaluru, the police said.

Munegowda was upset over family disputes and this could have led him to take the extreme step, the police suspect.
