Mohammed Zubair receives threats after Bengaluru home address leaks on social media

Bengaluru: Journalist and fact-checker Mohammed Zubair has reportedly received threats after his home address in Bengaluru was leaked on social media.

Zubair earlier on Monday filed a complaint with D Devaraj, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), and received an acknowledgement for the same, people familiar with the matter confirmed to DH.

"People have leaked my home address and mobile number and have threatened to send pork to my address. There are already life threats against me," Zubair wrote on X on Monday.

"This isn't the first time. The same person in 2023 had sent Pork to my address and shared the shipping address on Twitter. I am have filed a complaint before @DCPEASTBCP. Trust that @CPBlr @DgpKarnataka takes this threat seriously at least this time. Last time when I filed a complaint, the FIR was closed after a few months," he added.

The DCP couldn't be reached for a comment.

In his complaint, Zubair has shared details of the X handles, including @Cyber_Huntss, that leaked his home address and mobile number. The X handles called for pork meat to be sent to Zubair's home.

Zubair further alleged that this was an attempt at promoting enmity between religious groups. He has also sought police protection, since his address where he lives with his family, was made public on social media as he feared for his safety.
