Walkers irked as debris dumped on footpaths, roadsides

If illegal encroachments and parking were not enough to hassle pedestrians in the city, construction debris dumped on footpaths is adding to their woes now.

The illegal dumping of the debris is forcing pedestrians to use busy roads and risk their lives.

Among various black spots is Dr Ambedkar Veedhi near the power corridor of the Vidhana Soudha.

The debris has been dumped close to the bus stop on the stretch, making it difficult for pedestrians and vehicle users alike.

Mahendra Rao, a government employee who regularly uses the road, said: “I have witnessed the stretch worsen in the last few days with the debris being dumped overnight. The authorities concerned have not bothered to look into the problem or trace the culprits.”

The stretch near the Military Police Mess on Hosur Road, Anepalya, looks no less than a dumping yard with debris obstructing even the motorists. A lot of them were seen manoeuvring with difficulty at the spot.

Pavan Kumar, a resident of Anepalya, is among many because of the menace. “Some people are dumping the debris here, due to which we can’t even ride my vehicle. Where are the CCTV cameras that the government had promised to instal in the wards?” he wondered.

Though the BBMP had assured the cameras will be installed to track the culprits, nothing has been done so far.

Other major roads in the city facing the problem are Seshadri Road, Cubbon Road, Sarjapur Road and Somasundarapalya. The BBMP has earmarked seven quarries on the outskirts of the city, where all the Construction and demolition (C&D) waste is to be dumped.
