On a hilarious ride

I really appreciate the sacrifice you have made tonight by leaving Chennai Express,” says Rajnish Kapoor to his audience while hosting comedy night, ‘Mera Bharat Pareshan’.  As he introduces the concept of the event to everyone present at the Stein Auditorium in IHC, Rajnish is reminded of the popularity of Hinglish. 

In Hinglish, you don’t have an adjective. There’s only one adjective oh-oho. Look that girl oh-oho! Her walk oh-oho!” says Rajnish with a blend of wit and charm. “Now, just raise your voice with oh-oho and it works as a superlative,” he says, making the crowd burst out into laughter.  Suddenly, without a warning Rajnish introduces Dolly Khurana, a comedian from Jalandhar. For the audience, it turns out to be surprise because they were prepared to be entertained only by Aditi Mittal and Varun Grover, the stand-up comedians for the night. However, Dolly takes centrestage like an enthusiastic small-town girl who loves to chatter. 

Expressing herself as an ardent fan of cinema, Dolly gives the review of Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in her own Punjabi style. It was a hilarious act which kept everyone in splits.

According to Dolly, “The film is based on a runner but considering the slow pace of the narration it should have been called Chal Milkha Chal. There are reports that Sonam Kapoor did not charge money for the film. Why not? Because she was aware that she wouldn’t get paid for her role!”

As Dolly exits, the stage is once again taken over by Rajnish, who now talks about the air-hostess and pilot making-out in airplane. Even the audience can’t resist laughing when he specifies the reason as to why cockpit doors always remain closed and the plane shakes frequently. “I am petrified to sit in planes,” says Rajnish making faces. And now, it is time for Aditi Mittal to take up stage. 

“Sunny Deol would have been nothing if India-Pakistan was not divided. His film Gadar would have never existed,” she explains. She asks audiences about Aseem Trivedi, a cartoonist who drew the Parliament and wrote national toilet on it. “He was arrested but I don’t think he was wrong. You always Baith Jaiyee (sit down) there and if in case any amendment is passed they call it, ‘passing the motion’,” she says in jest. 

Suddenly somebody in the audience calls out, “Hey, aren’t you Dolly Khurana?” Stumped at being caught out, Aditi nee Dolly replies with a smile on her lips and gleam in her eyes, “I have other things to do.”
