<p>The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday ordered a notice to the Ministry of Road Transport and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in a PIL questioning the collection of Rs 40 as toll charge between the Parle G factory and Goraguntepalya stretch in Bengaluru.</p><p>A division bench comprising Chief Justice Vibhu Bakhru and Justice CM Joshi directed the authorities to submit their response and adjourned the matter to September 17.</p><p>The PIL was filed by advocate AV Amarnathan, a resident of a township located at Dasanapura on Huskur Road.</p><p>The petitioner contended that ever since he moved to Dasanapura, while travelling along the Nelamangala–Bengaluru Road using the Nagasandra flyover, Rs 40 toll is being collected for a journey of about five km between the Parle G factory and Goraguntepalya.</p><p>The map of the Bengaluru North taluk, issued by the Survey Department, depicts that the five km stretch falls within the city limits.</p>.NHAI financial squeeze, and government’s capex window-dressing.<p>The petitioner stated that he had filed RTI applications to the NHAI seeking details. However, the NHAI has refused to release any documents pertaining to the toll charge. The petitioner alleged that the toll collection for the five-km stretch is illegal.</p><p>The petitioner also contended that since the expiry of the contract period for collection of tolls in 2021, the toll plaza cannot continue to collect fees through FASTags. The petitioner said that crores of money is being collected at the toll for five km, which is a vital stretch connecting about 20 districts of the state to Bengaluru city.</p><p>The petitioner prayed to the court to restrain the respondents from collecting toll.</p><p><strong>Nagasandra toll</strong></p><p>In addition, the petitioner has also sought a direction to the NHAI to furnish details of the toll collection at the Nagasandra toll plaza from 2021 till date.</p>
