<p>The traffic police have booked eight marriage/convention halls across the city to detain drunk driving offenders until they get over their drunken stupor.</p>.<p>The police will seize the offender’s vehicle and send them to the nearest marriage hall, where they will be detained until 6 am the next morning. The offenders will be allowed to contact family members to inform about the detention.</p>.<p>The vehicles of offenders will be seized and they will also have to pay fines, P Harishekaran, Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, said.</p>.<p>Around 2,000 traffic policemen have been deployed at strategic locations. Special drives and patrolling on highways, NICE road, flyovers and arterial roads will be taken up to keep a check on drunk driving, the officer said.</p>.<p>“It’s not a penal action, but a parental touch to ensure the safety of motorists and their family members," Harishekaran added.</p>
