Bengaluru: As Bengaluru experiences high temperatures, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rainfall alert for this week.
.
The Met Department predicts that Bengaluru is likely to receive light to moderate showers accompanied by thunder and lightning on Thursday and Friday.
.
The Met Centre forecast states that these pre-monsoon showers may last two days and are expected to lower maximum temperatures.
.
With the maximum and minimum temperatures in the city ranging between 36°C and 20°C over the next two days, the IMD forecast indicates that the maximum temperature will drop to 30°C after rainfall on Thursday.
.India to witness 'hotter than usual' temperatures from April to June: IMD.
N Puviarasan, head of the Met Centre in Bengaluru, explained that the pre-monsoon showers are caused by an interaction between an easterly trough at the lower atmospheric level and a westerly trough at the upper atmospheric level.
.
He said, “Currently, Bengaluru is receiving northerly winds, which are causing an increase in temperature. Easterly winds are cooler than northerly winds this season, as North India is experiencing peak summer.”
.
He further noted that, as per the present synoptic conditions, a circulation lies over the southwest Bay of Bengal, off the Tamil Nadu coast, extending up to 3.1 km above the sea level, along with a cyclonic circulation over Tamil Nadu and its neighbouring regions at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
.
Under this influence, isolated light rainfall and thunderstorms are likely across Karnataka from April 1 to 3.
