Who said today’s children do not like math? On Sunday at NIMHANS, 1,200 of them from across the state showed the audience their prowess in a subject many their age had problems even grasping.

Though the Rajajinagar unit of Brainobrain lifted the overall trophy for the day-long mental arithmetic calibre competition -Karnataka Brainobrain Fest- almost all of them solved mathematical problems at lightning speed, while also demonstrating their all-round skills.

“We conducted several mathematical and problem solving competitions to students aging between 5 and 14 years. We gave prizes in 10 different levels apart from team prizes,” said Arul Subramaniam, director- technical, Brainobrain International.

Basaveshwara Nagar won the second prize followed by JP Nagar 2nd phase, Gowribidanur and Raichur. Many students from Maharashtra also participated in the competition.

“The children solved problems instantly. They handled multitasking so easily and solved an array of problems
in one go,” added Subramaniam.

Perhaps the highlight of the event was the children giving a live demo of their mathematical prowess. An LKG student from JP Nagar 2nd phase, Rishwanth R S, began with the well-known story on ‘Monkey and the cap-seller’ demonstrating how there is solution for every problem and ended by showcasing his mathematical skills by giving a demo on stage.
