<p>The Chamarajpet police on Friday arrested three men in connection with the murder of a businessman who went missing on April 23. <br /><br />During interrogation, the trio confessed to smothering Krishnappa, 53, who ran a printing press in Kasturbanagar, and burying his body on the outskirts of the City.<br /><br />In their complaint to the Chamarajpet police on April 24, Krishnappa’s family said he had left home the previous morning telling them he was going out with his friend Jagadish to buy a printing machine. <br /><br />But in the afternoon, he called his third daughter Sowmya on his mobile phone and told her to hand over the Rs 2-lakh cash he had kept for purchasing the machine, to a person named Ramesh.<br /><br />At around the same time, he had also called his friend Gopalkrishna, a resident of Chandra Layout, asking him to arrange Rs one lakh for him to buy a printing machine, and hand it over to a man would come to collect it on his behalf.<br /><br />Accordingly, Ramesh, a mechanic at Sultanpet, collected the cash from an unsuspecting Sowmya and Gopalkrishna. But the family panicked when Krishnappa failed to return home. <br /><br />His mobile phone was switched off. They filed a missing complaint the next day.</p>.<p><br />Investigating officers found the circumstances Krishnappa went missing as a classic case of abduction for gain. <br /><br />Phone call records<br /><br />Tracking his phone call records, police picked up Jagadish, and based on the information provided by him, they detained Shashi and Chennappa on Friday evening.<br /><br />The three own separate printing presses at Sultanpet.<br /><br />Shashi, Chennappa and Jagadish were Krishnappa’s friends, but they were envious of his flourishing business. <br /><br />So, they decided to teach him a lesson, they told the police. On April 23, Jagadish called Krishnappa for a party at Nayandahalli and they were joined by Shashi and Chennappa. <br /><br />They abducted Krishnappa to an open field in Meenakshi Layout at Bidadi on the City outskirts, assaulted him and forced him to call his daughter and friend to arrange for the money. After a while, they sent Ramesh to collect the money from Sowmya and Gopalkrishna. <br /><br />Police said the three later panicked Krishnappa would reveal their identity and smothered him to death and buried the body in the field in Bidadi.<br /><br />The details of the case are sketchy as the three suspects are still being interrogated, police said, adding they were yet to identify Ramesh who collected money from Krishnappa’s daughter and his friend.<br /><br />Sonia Narang, DCP South, told Deccan Herald that Krishnappa’s body would be <br />exhumed with the permission of the area sub-divisional <br />magistrate, most likely on Saturday.</p>
