Two arrested for murdering 60-year-old man

Kannan, the victim, went missing on September 5. A complaint was lodged at the Kamakshipalya police station in this connection. The police have cracked the case and arrested Suresh (28), Kannan's relative and Purander (30).

However, two other accused in the case, John and Kumar, the alleged supari killers, are still at large.

The police said, Kannan had two wives and there were differences of opinion among the family members over the property issue. Kannan had written a will earlier, but recently, changed his mind to make a fresh one.

This irked Suresh (Kannan's nephew) and few others in the family. So, he decided to eliminate Kannan, contacted John and gave Rs 2 lakh supari to complete the job, the police said.

John got friendly with Kannan and on the pretext of some land deal, invited him to visit Tamil Nadu on September 5. Midway, Suresh and Kumar got into the car and allegedly slit Kannan's throat.

The gang drove towards Hassan and disposed of the body in Hemavathi river at Haloor Bridge. Three days later, the body was fished out.

The news reached Kamakshipalya police and Kannan’s family identified the body. The cops zeroed in on Suresh after going through the call details of Kannan.

Chain-snatcher caught

Alert public caught a chain-snatcher and handed him over to the police in Indiranagar on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place when Asha, an employee of a private company, was returning home after work. She got down from a bus and started walking towards her home in Indiranagar second stage.

The accused followed her on a bike, snatched her chain and tried to escape. A few people chased him and caught when Asha cried for help.Later, they handed him over to the police. “We are interrogating him and trying to recover chains which he snatched from other women in different parts of the City,” the police said.

Student sets herself ablaze

A 10th standard student doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze at her Tilak Nagar residence on Tuesday night.

The deceased, Lavanya was a student of Byrasandra government school. She did not leave any death note.

However, her mother has accused their landlord Shivakumar for pushing her daughter to take the extreme step. In her complaint she has said that, Shivakumar, who is father of two children, was pestering Lavanya to marry him. Shivakumar has been detained based on the complaint and further investigation is on.

With more than 65 percent burns, Lavanya was shifted to the hospital and after a few hours, she succumbed to injuries at Victoria Hospital.
