The High Court of Karnataka has sought to know why a parallel body like the Vision Group was constituted to address the city's problems despite the existence of the Bangalore Metropolitan Planning Committee (BMPC).

The court was hearing a PIL by the Namma Bengaluru Foundation for quashing the order on the formation of the Bangalore Blue Print Action Group (BBPAG). The petition described the formation of the group as illegal and unconstitutional and said the BMPC should be declared the only committee authorised for planning Bengaluru.

The court orally observed that the government should allow statutory bodies to work but can always call upon experts for advice.

The court said the existence of Vision Group that was not formed under law despite the existence of the BMPC would only cause confusion. The formation of such a group is not required, it observed.

When the government counsel sought time until Monday to explain the stand, the court asked him to give the response on Friday.

The court adjourned the hearing until Friday.
