<p>The students of Kristu Jayanti College had the rare opportunity of interacting with former Indian cricketer V V S Laxman. The talk and interaction was recently organised, on campus, as part of Vichaarmanthan, a programme that features popular global and national visionaries. <br /><br /></p>.<p>This was the 13th edition of Vichaarmanthan and the students spent a good hour or more interacting with Laxman and asking him all the questions they wanted to ask him. What inspired the students was Laxman’s bold decision to choose cricket over medicine as his career. Interacting with the students, he said that his goal was to become a cardiologist, but his dream was to become a cricketer and represent India. His journey was not smooth, but one fraught with a lot of ups and downs. “It is important to realise your dreams,” said Laxman and added, “don’t look at what people give you, see what can you give them.”<br /><br />He emphasised that only communication, teamwork and the ability to handle defeat will help one become successful. He shared with the students his insight of the current Indian team and the undying spirit of M S Dhoni. He recollected the pressure he felt when he scored 281 against Australia which helped India win the test match. <br /><br />When asked about the future of Indian cricket in test, one day and T20, he said, “T20 gives both sport and entertainment which is liked by the present generation. One Day International (ODI) is facing pressure and test cricket will always remain because it challenges a cricketer’s stability, credibility and endurance.”<br /><br />Talking about his future plans, Laxman shared, “I plan to open a school and a cricket academy because I believe education and sports must go hand in hand.” The talk concluded with Laxman encouraging the students to become leaders in their respective field and usher in a positive change in the country. <br /><br />Present during the interaction were principal and head, social work department Fr Jose P J and head department of computer science Fr Augustine. <br /></p>
