Karnataka: Bill on compliance with court orders likely in upcoming monsoon session

Bengaluru: The government is likely to introduce the Karnataka Conduct of Government Litigation (Amendment) Bill in the upcoming monsoon session of the legislature, slated to begin on August 11.

The bill will amend the Karnataka Conduct of Government Litigation Act, 2023.

The new bill proposes a new chapter 4A, which mandates the government to appoint an officer to supervise the enforcement or compliance of any order issued by the court of law. 

As per section 28B of the amendment, "Every department, with the assistance of the designated officer, shall prepare a fortnightly report containing the number of orders which are not complied with, within the specified period and those orders which are complied with, within such period".

"For non-compliance of the orders, the reasons shall be assigned in respect of each case, to be placed before the head of the department for further processing towards compliance," the bill says.
