BJP workers attack Ramanath Rai's close aide in Bantwal

A group of BJP workers allegedly attacked Minister B Ramanath Rai’s close aide Bantwal Assembly constituency Congress Publicity Committee President Sanjeeva Poojary and his wife, at his house, at Mithamajalu in Sajipamooda in Bantwal taluk, on Thursday late night.

The gang also damaged cars with a boulder. The incident occurred around 11.30 pm.

Sanjeev Poojary in his complaint to the Bantwal Police said, that a group led by BJP Bantwal assembly constituency unit vice president Srikanth Shetty attempted to murder him.

The group allegedly attacked Sanjeev Poojary, his wife and a few Congress leaders including Shankar, Ammi and others. The injured are recuperating in a private hospital.

Speaking to DH, Sanjeev Poojary said “I returned from Congress office at 11.30 pm. My friends accompanied me home. As I was entering the house, the gang attacked me. The gang damaged the window panes also”.

“The suspects damaged the glass of two cars with boulders. When my friends tried to prevent them, they too were assaulted by the group. When my wife Vasanthi tried to intervene, she too was attacked,” he said.

“I tried to prevent the gang from assaulting my wife and the gang assaulted me. When the information reached the police, the gang fled the spot. They had come to murder us,” he alleged.

It is said that Srikanth Shetty was in Congress and had joined the BJP recently.

Sanjeeva Poojary is Brahmasri Narayana Guru Jnana Mandira, Sajipamooda President and also a member of Bantwal taluk panchayat.

Additional SP Sajeeth, and Bantwal police personnel rushed to the spot.
