<p>Mangaluru: Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/u-t-khader">U T Khader</a> said that the Legislature Secretariat will organise a book fair, and literature festival, along with a food and cultural festival outside the <a href="https://www.deccanherald.com/tags/vidhana-soudha">Vidhana Soudha</a> building in Bengaluru from February 27 to March 3.</p><p>“For the first time, such an event is being organised. Litterateurs, writers, and thinkers will be part of the literature festival. The book fair will have at least 150 stalls. About 80 per cent of the books will be in Kannada language and 20 per cent in other languages including English. The budding writers who wish to release their books will also be given a platform at the venue,” he told mediapersons.</p><p>Writers' meetings will be arranged at locations at the venue. The cultural programmes will be held in the evening. The entry will be open to the public. </p><p>“As such a programme is organised for the first time, we want to make it very systematic. An award will be also announced for a litterateur during the five-day programme,” he added.</p><p>A committee led by the secretariat secretary, secretary to the department of Kannada and culture, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, Food and Civil Supplies and Home department have been constituted to work on the details of the book fair and Lit festival.</p>.Karnataka BJP crisis: Anti-Vijayendra faction to meet central leadership in Delhi.<p>Further, the Speaker said a special provision will be made for all the legislators to purchase books worth Rs two to three lakh under MLALAD at the book fair. The legislators can purchase books for government schools, colleges, and libraries in their constituency. </p><p>“The legislators can collect suggestions from college libraries and government libraries on the kind of books they require and purchasethemt at the fair. The book stalls have been asked to sell books at a concession rate,” he said.</p><p>The Legislature Secretariat has invited suggestions from the public for the logo and name of the festival. The public can submit the logo and name to secy-kla-kar@nic.in or send WhatsApp to 9448108798.</p><p><strong>Permanent lighting</strong></p><p>The government has been spending lakhs of rupees for the lighting of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru during Independence Day, Republic Day, and Rajyotsava celebrations. </p><p>“Now, measures will be taken to permanently illuminate the Vidhana Soudha. I have already spoken to the Chief Minister and Finance department. Tenders will be floated for the work,” said U T Khader.</p><p><strong>Stray dog menace</strong></p><p>The Speaker said stray dog menace has been causing inconvenience to the visitors at Vidhana Soudha. A meeting with Chief Secretary, Prani Daya Sangha members has been convened to discuss containing the menace.</p>
