Chamarajanagar oxygen tragedy: Karnataka to give government jobs to kin of victims

Chamarajanagar: After four years, the families of the victims of the oxygen tragedy during the Covid pandemic in Chamarajanagar will soon get government jobs, as assured by the Karnataka government. The process has been initiated.

The government has finally responded to the continuous protests by the victims of the oxygen tragedy and other organisations supporting them and has started the process of providing them government jobs.

Chamarajanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) has sent letters on provision of employment, under special recruitment, to the dependents and has instructed them to submit necessary documents at the earliest.

The government will be providing jobs to the kin of 31 people, who died due to shortage of oxygen supply at Chamarajanagar district hospital.

The necessary documents, required to be submitted by the kin, includes death certificate, letter attested by the tahsildar that they were the dependents of the deceased, marriage document, and date of birth certificate.

Besides, they should get a letter of approval from the family members for the job, income certificate, caste certificate and conduct certificate from the Police department.

The affected will be provided jobs, that include 10 posts at CIMS, and 21 at the district hospital and Health department. Dean and Director of CIMS Dr H G Manjunath said, the process of collecting applications and documents from the victims is underway.

The proposal will be submitted before the Governing Council meeting. Once the notification for recruitment is published, appointment letters will be distributed, he said.

Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag said that the district administration is with the victims. The district administration held several meetings and submitted a proposal to the government. The application process will be completed soon, she said.
