Members of Mysore Kannada Vedike on Saturday staged a protest in the city opposing the presidential address of the 83rd Akhila Bharata Kannada Sahitya Sammelana by writer Chandrashekhar Patil (Champa).
The members who gathered at Vishwamanava Park alleged that Champa has politicised the sammelana by asking the participants to vote for a particular party in the upcoming Assembly elections. His statement in favour of a political party is condemnable, said Vedike president Balakrishna. Champa also did not offer puja to Bhuvaneshwari Devi before the commencement of the procession and also refused to wear the Mysuru peta, which has hurt the sentiments of Mysureans, he said. Writer P V Nanjaraj Urs was present.
Meanwhile, convener of Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore (ACICM) M Lakshman has opposed the appeal of Champa to chief minister to drop Primary and Secondary Education Minister Tanveer Sait. "Champa should not have misused the platform for doing politics," he has said.
